The Tunstall Vi+ and CEL Personal Emergency Response Systems can monitor a subscriber’s environment for smoke, flood, or unhealthy temperature conditions. All Environmental Monitoring solutions result in alerting a caregiver and, if necessary, emergency responders.
Smoke Detection
Environmental Monitor
The Tunstall Smoke Detector works with the Tunstall Vi+ and Tunstall CEL units to monitor the environment for smoke. Simply by pairing with the subscriber's Vi+ or CEL unit, the smoke detector will automatically signal the unit to dial into the Emergency Response Center (ERC) if smoke is detected and audibly warn the subscriber of possible danger.

Flood Detection
Environmental Monitor
The Tunstall Flood Detector monitors areas in the home that may be vulnerable to flooding such as the basement where a pipe may burst, the bathroom, or the kitchen where there is a potential risk of water damage. The Tunstall Flood Detector(s) are placed on the floor of the room to be monitored. When the detector senses a tiny amount of water on the floor, it emits a loud beeping sound to warn the subscriber, and sends a signal wirelessly to the Tunstall Vi+ or Tunstall CEL home unit. The unit will dial into the ERC. The operator will know that the Flood Detector triggered the call and will assist the subscriber by contacting a family member or caregiver.

Activity monitoring works at critical periods during the day when a persons’ activities around their home normally fit a regular pattern. If the pattern is broken, it may indicate that the resident had an accident or is unwell and needs assistance, so a call is automatically made to the ERC who will notify a caregiver of the event.
Activity Monitoring
Monitor daytime activity patterns
Activity monitoring works at critical periods during the day when a persons’ activities around their home normally fit a regular pattern. If the pattern is broken, it may indicate that the resident had an accident or is unwell and needs assistance, so a call is automatically made to the ERC who will notify a caregiver of the event.
Activity monitoring relies on one or several activity sensors located strategically around the dwelling, for example on the refrigerator door. A sensor could be a magnetic switch or a floor pressure mat. The sensor wirelessly signals activity to the Vi+ or CEL home unit using a ROM. A set of rules are configured in the home unit. For example, a resident is normally out of bed and in the kitchen to make breakfast between 7am and 8am and if the refrigerator door is not opened during this period then a call is made to the ERC who will notify the caregiver.

Nighttime Monitoring
Monitor nighttime activity patterns
Nighttime activity monitoring uses a bed sensor to detect when a person is in or out of bed, and signal exceptions to their normal pattern of behavior.
The bed monitor is a small battery operated unit that can be hidden under the bed. It has a sensor pad which fits under the mattress. The weight of someone on the bed allows it to signal “In bed” to the Vi+ or CEL home unit and when the person leaves the bed it signals “Out of bed”.
The home unit holds a set of personalized rules so that if the person does not go to bed within their normal period or does not get up in the morning by their normal time, then the home unit will alert the ERC who will notify a caregiver of the event. Furthermore, if the person gets up in the night and does not return within their normal time, the home unit will alert the ERC who will notify a caregiver.
